Weavercraft Dinner Log from Thursday, October 26, 2000

Inner Courtyard of the WeaverCraftHall(#1085RJ)

The courtyard of the Weaver Hall is a place of quiet and beauty. The lilt of the water splashing and falling in the fountain greets your ears as soon as you step into the courtyard. Water-loving plants surround the pond formed at the base of the fountain. Lining the paving stone walkways, plants in varied hues of leaf and flower provide beauty as well as function, most being used for dyes or cooking. Small stones placed next to some of the plants serve as a learning tool for those apprentices just learning which plants are used for which function.

Gravel paths lead off the main paving stone paths, meandering between sunny flower beds, through shady spots under ficus, redbud, and palm trees, or past comfortable benches. Shrubs in various places give some height to provide privacy for study or an opportunity to enjoy the peaceful courtyard. A large area nearthe great hall doors is paved with stones of ivory marble in a formal herringbone pattern.

Beyond the palm trees stretch the inner walls where various archways lead inside the Hall.

Plants are grouped in the corners of this light, airy hall. Doors and windows are usually left open, allowing in the balmy air. Lavender draperies frame the windows in a soft lightweight brocade. The tables, from the plain apprentice tables with benches to the ornately carved master's platform with its chairs covered in plush lavender corduroy, are made of light golden oak. The walls are painted the palest of yellows, contrasting pleasantly with the beige terra cotta floor scattered randomly with lavender tiles. Several vibrant colored tapestries depicting scenes from Pern's history line the walls between the glow baskets that provide light when needed.

The low murmur of conversations adds a pleasant background noise.

Large golden oak doors lead west into the fitting room, northwest into the working wing, east into the kitchen, northeast into the teaching wing, and north into the inner courtyard. An enormous set of oak doors with spindle-shapes hinges lead out to the fields and front entrance of the WeaverCraft Hall. Tucked in the corner near the kitchen are a set of stairs that lead to the masters' hallway on the second floor.

Several folks clad in their best Gather-day Harper Blue enter the Great Hall, carrying instruments and sheet music. Some of the younger apprentices stop and look around, wide-eyed, til the older Harpers gently prod them along.

Radar walks in through the archway from the teaching wing.

Radar has arrived.

The Juice Girl looks wide eyed a moment, then quickly fills a glass with the juice combonation that makes a swirling colorful mixture. "Tell me if it's good.." she whispers to Radar.

One of the younger Harper apprentices drops a tamborine with a loud crash, and the others scramble to help him pick it up.

Dela strolls in from the inner wings of the hall, dressed to impress and not in her usual skimpy getup for a change. "Hello!" she rings out and scurries over to greet the harpers "Hi! Weavers duties to the Harpers!" she greets the first one she meets. "Thanks for comong, hopefully more people will show up soon. Help yourself to any of the drinks and food you have time to get your hands on." she grins and scoots off to make sure everyone is ready to recieve guests.

Elya grins as Dela scurries off, and turns to help the younger apprentices with their instruments. An older Journeywoman strides across the Great Hall to see about playing space.

In honour of the Weaver/Fortian dinner, the BakerCraft masters and journeymen have outdone themselves with this extravagant affair. The table is set with crisp white linen, edged with a silver cord. The platters and porcelain glow softly under the light of the glows.

The first course is circulated on silver trays by attentive apprentices as the guests mingle and socialize among each other before the main courses. The trays hold: soft white cheese rectangles wrapped in steamed basil leaves; rivergrain stuffed Tillekian grape leaves; brandy flambeigned chicken medallions on bamboo; and sauteed spinach and cheese on crusty graineed toast squares.

The second course begins the seated portion of the feast. Served on fine porcelain, a chilled cucumber soup is presented, topped with a dollop of sour cream and crowned with fresh herbs. Fresh soft rolls, still steaming from the ovens accompany the soup.

The third course is served on clear plates to allow the food's natural beauty to be displayed. Various greens are mixed with a light vinagrette. A smattering of real edible wildflowers top the salad and provide a stunning riot of summer colors.

The fourth course is the main course. Platters of meats are served for the guests: double-thick apple-stuffed porcine chops; Bollians duck slices topped with a sherry-like wine sauce; racks of lamb roasted with rosemary and garlic; and a light fish fillet served with a creamy chive sauce. Serving bowls of sides compliment the meal: wedgenut stuffing with apples and sage; roasted tubers with rosemary and garlic; rivergrains with nuts and currants; and sauteed mushroms with onion, garlic and parsley.

The final course consists of desserts. The centerpiece of the desserts is a three-tiered cake make of light yet rich and fluffy dough. The uppermost tier is decorated with real wildflowers which seem to cascade down to the base. Additional desserts include: klah and brandy parfaits; creme brulee tarts topped with slivered nuts; almond crisp pirouettes, one end dipped in carob; and fresh Bollian fruits.

Radar walks in from the teaching wing, and looks around with interested eyes. He straightens his new clothes, and goes to talk to a pretty blonde harper who seems to be having trouble with her gitar music.

The Juice Girl splashes a bit of kiwi juice into the already random mix of juices, pours a glass and hands it over to Dela.

Dela retrieves her glass of kiwi juice and waves a hand to Radar as he passes. Milling about, she nervously straightens table linens and lines up forks as if it were her head that impressesions of the hall rested upon.

The journeywoman Harper, smiling with satisfaction, makes her way back over to the group of apprentices. She leans over to have a word with Elya, then moves over to speak with Tayla, who is talking to the young man.

Elya and the journeywoman confer for a moment, and then Elya walks over to Dela. "When would you like us to set up?" She enquires.

Public announcement: Dela steps up to the mike and grins. "Come one, come all! The WeaverCraft is having a formal dinner party with dancing, mingling, sketches, and as soon as they get back online, a Kissing Booth! +go weaver-gh for some fun. Dragon parking available in the fields outside." :)

Naomi has arrived.

Dela stands by the door in her purple gown, and greets incoming guests. "Hello! Weavers Duties, welcome!" she calls out to each as they enter.

Mirielle has arrived.

Shirana has arrived.

Shirana steps through the great double doors to the outside.

Shirana has left.

Mirielle walks in through the door, and smiles back at Dela. "Thank you" she calls, before looking around.

The mob of Harpers move to the side of the room that has been cleared for their use and begin setting up chairs, leaning instruments in various places, and setting up their sheet music.

Qulan has arrived.

Radar eeps and leaves the blond apprentice harper alone as the guests start to arrive. He joins Dela and calls out, "Weaver's duties to everyone!"

Dela grins across the doors to Radar and tips an imaginary hat at him. "Greetings!" she calls out again, dipping her head to each incoming guest, and taking an occaisional cloak to stash in the fitting room nearby. She'll let the apprentices sort them out later.

Naomi goes home.

Naomi has left.

Young baker apprentices in black and white with crimson vests wander around the hall holding platters and trays full of hors d'ourves and little squares of cheese for the visitors.

The Juice Girl fills a glass with grape juice, and hands it to Radar with a wink and a blush.

The Harper Journeywoman calls the others over to her, and they huddle in a circle. After a moment of discussion they break apart and two of the older apprentices take up instruments, one a gitar and one a set of pipes, and they seat themselves and begin playing a light before-dinner tune, quietly so as not to drown out the conversation.

A few apprentices get over their jitters and file out onto the dance floor, dancing in a little cluster together.

Qulan comes in through the front entrance, the great doors held open by a pair of young men in Benden livery. The young Holder smiles at the sight of friends, waving and then casting a grin toward Dela, "Lord and Lady Benden send greetings," she applies formally.

Radar's jaw drops as he gets a good look at Qulan, but then his manners resurface. He smiles and bows to her, saying, "Weaver's duties to Benden Hold. Welcome!"

Coming just to five feet, she is compact and well-proportioned, her tiny frame graced by the fully bloomed curves of young adulthood. Childish fullness has begun to leave her cheeks, revealing the fine bones of her oval face, framed by palest blonde ringlets which fall gently from the complicated twist of braids and curls piled atop her head. She is generally a quiet young woman, saved from appearing quiescently dull by large, intelligent eyes, pale grey-green like new sage leaves.

A master weaver's creation, evident in its fine fabric and precise stitching, her gather dress shimmers in brushed champagne brocade, its pale hues setting off the girl's platinum tresses and fair colouring, a small floral pattern breaking the satiny surface of its weave. Covering the entire surface of the garment, fine silver chain-stitching traces out every flower, vine and leaf, lending the subtle impression of captured moonlight to the entire affair, vivid in direct sunlight. The dress is otherwise undecorated, anything more being simply too much, allowing the cut to speak for itself in the close lines of the sleeves and bodice, the daring plunge of the neckline, and the wide, voluminous sweep of the skirt.

Dela tips her head in a faint yet polite to the young Holder Qulan and smiles. "The WeaverCraft happily accept and offer our hospitality. Enjoy your stay." she responds, equally formally, and guestures to a wine toting apprentice to be nearby the lady with a glass.

Ahem. Faint yet polite /curtsey/.

Selchin has arrived.

Qulan smiles, accepting a wineglass from the tray-bearing apprentice with a gracious nod, "It's good to visit again. Been a while since I've been out here."

Selchin steps into the room, gazing about for familiar faces. She smiles, spying Lady Qulan and crosses towards her.

Dela grins and guestures to the flowers gathered and bunched into table decorations. "It's been a while since I've been around here myself. I've been off with the Sebring, and had to leave Radar here to make sure the hall gets it's regular order of mischeif." she turns to nod a greeting to Selchin "Greetings! Weavers duties, and welcome!"

Elya finishes talking to a Weaver and then heads over to the apprentices who are still playing and picks up her new gitar, one that is larger than normal, and begins playing along, adding lower harmonies.

Selchin smiles at Dela, nodding,"And Tillek Duties to the Weavercraft. Good evening."

Radar turns a brilliant shade of crimson before gaining enough control to make the blush go away. He bowls to Lady Selchin and says, "Weaver's duties to Tillek!"

From afar, Dela loves the poses. :)

Qulan turns around at the weaver's greeting sent beyond her and turns, face brightening at the sight of Lady Tillek, "You made it!" the girl beams, meeting Selchin halfway with a hug, "I haven't seen you in sevendays."

Selchin grins at the lad and inclines her head,"Thank you most kindly, sir. The duties of Tieelk to your hall.

Selchin turns at the sound of the familiar voice, beaming. "I was so hoping to se you here." She enflods the Benden girl in a warm hug,"It seems forever since we last visited."

An apprentice carrying a silver tray filled with wine glasses and a several skins of wine, one each from each wine making place, strolls about the hall. His tray rests on table tops long enough to fill glasses, and he continues his rounds.

Qulan embraces Selchin carefully, mindful of her wineglass, and gestures toward a table where some other Holders are already seated. "Yes, you really must come to Benden sometime. It's a little sparse for good conversation with Aunt Lara away."

One of the male apprentice Harpers leans over to chat with the Juice Girl, his eyes twinkling. He winks, smirks, and moves away before the Journeywoman notices him.

The dancing apprentices get tired, and file off the dancing square, only to be quickly replaced by a few others in gather finery. One woman kicks off her shoes and dances happily with her partner, then settles for a close slow dance with the next song.

Selchin accepts a glass of red wine and follows Qulan to the table, nodding and saying quietly,"I'm sure it is. You and I will have to plan an outing and I will come for a visit."

Dela greets an incoming couple and winces at the sound of a loud *thud* which turns out to be a dragon landing rather roughly outside. A moment later, a few riders come in, dressed to impress, and begin mingling with the others about.

The performing Harpers, noticing that more people are interested in dancing, finish up their first song and kick into an energetic tune. Elya puts her gitar aside and picks up a frame drum and begins tapping out a lively beat.

A few riders from nearby and not so nearby weyrs get together on the dance floor, chatting about things that riders chat about, and enjoy themselves wholeheartedly dancing.

Nuala strides down the stairs to the first floor.

Nuala has arrived.

Selchin murmurs to Qulan,"They've really outdone themselves this evening, haven't they? The room is simply lovely tonight."

Nuala wanders down the stairs, murmuring apologies about errant littles and running late.

Youthful in appearance, the only thing that belies Nuala's age of 39 Turns, 4 months, and 20 days is a grey streak that weaves through her mid-length light brown hair. She carries her lithe 5'6" frame with poise and grace and her green eyes sparkle against her tan - like most from Southern Boll, it is evident that she spends quite a bit of her free time outdoors. Her slender fingers, skilled at sewing, have a tendency to gesture when she talks, a ring on the third finger of her left hand catching your eye (+detail). She is quick to smile and laugh with an equally quick temper that has mellowed somewhat with age. Around her shoulder the intricately-woven lavender and white Weaver CraftMaster and MasterKnitter knots are wrapped.

Floor-length and sleeveless, a bias-cut pale gray sisal slipdress forms the backdrop for delicate ivory lace. Sleeves of the floral lace are fitted against her arms beyond the bodice of the sisal underdress until mid-forearm when it flares into long cuffs. The back of the lace overdress is vee'd sharply to her waist, following the line of the sisal under it. Many tiny mother-of-pearl buttons fasten the lace from the waist to the end of the skirt where it trails two hand-spans beyond the sisal.

Qulan nods to Selchin and smiles, "Yes, they've really done some impressive things with the decorations. It's a lovely gather."

Radar bows as the CraftMaster enters the room, then decides to join in the dancing. He grabs a young brunette Weaver Jr. Apprentice and they join the swirl on the floor.

Selchin smiles delightedly, as she spies the craftmaster come into the room and lifts her glass of red in silent toast to the woman. She murmurs softly to Qulan,"Have you met Craftmaster Nuala yet? Lovely woman."

Dela lifts her hand in a wave to Nuala and turns back to the door, greeting another incoming rider from Benden Weyr.

Nuala waves back to Dela and mingles into the gathered group.

Jehran has arrived.

Qulan nods and flutters her own wave toward the craftmaster, "I met her at another gather. She's wonderful."

Jehran comes in, somewhat tardily, and quickly steps away from the entrance so his arrival is not quite as obvious as it might be otherwise.

Selchin nods her agreement with the younger woman, as she watches the craftmaster make the rounds of the room. "There was a 'fasting at the Hall not long ago, and the dress she designed for the girl was prefectly exquisite."

Dela looks up and up and up and up at a very tall person who comes in the door with a much shorter woman holding onto his arm. "Hello, Weavers duties, Greetings, and Welcome to the Weaver Dinner Party! Enjoy yourselves!" she calls up to him, and across to her, and waves them on into the hall.

Nuala pauses near Selchin and Qulan. "Good evening, Selchin, Qulan." She nods to each of them with a friendly smile. "It's been a while since I've seen you."

Dela casts a wave and a "Greetings" to Jehran as he enters and passes right by.

Selchin smiles, nodding,"It has been quite some time, craftmaster. Your own handfasting, I believe."

As the lively dance song ends, the Harpers confer for a moment before picking up with another fast-paced cheerful piece.

The jittery group of apprentices move out onto the dance floor again, dancing in a little cluster. Laughing and giggling, two young female apprentices make their way over to a pair of male riders and invite them to dance.

Nuala looks faintly shocked. "I didn't think it had been that long." She muses for a moment. "That was at least 4 or 5 turns ago - I've two littles now."

Qulan smiles up at Nuala, "Benden Hold's duties. Lovely event your people have put on here."

Selchin nods, smiling,"I'd heard that. The captain and I've just the one toddler, yet."

Another of the BakerCraft apprentices swings by where Nuala is gathered with Selchin and Qulan, offering his tray of wine glasses and several skins of wine. "Wine, CraftMaster?" he offers, deftly refilling a glass of someone standing to the side while the holder of the glass isn't looking.

Nuala smiles and shakes her head. "Thank you, no. Not at this moment."

Jehran checks his steps as he is greeted by Dela, and smiles at her in a slightly embarassed manner, "Hello there," he says, "Igen Weyr's duties to your Hall. Thank you for the invitation. Have we met before?"

Selchin nods in agreement with Qulan, echoing,"Lovely."

Qulan hands her glass off to be refilled, "Yes, thank you."

Nuala beams at both women. "Thank you! Of course, Doran and Dela must get all the credit for this. They did such a splendid job."

Dela casts a bright smile to Jehran, and shakes her head in a guesture neither implying yes or no. "Possibly.. I've been to Igen before, I'm Dela, Journeyman." she tips her head slightly, glances to the side at the mention of her name. "I don't recall you right off, but I may after some prompting."

Selchin smiles brightly at the craftmaster,"Ahhh, but we know from where the training to do such came, Nuala."

The Harpers end the song with a flourish and bow to the clapping from the dancers. The Journeywoman joins them and pulls up a chair. She leans over to speak to Elya, who sets her drum down and picks up her gitar. The Journeywoman Harper counts off and they begin a fast-paced gitar duet that has people clapping and stomping their feet. Other apprentices drift over, one picks up a drum and begins to keep the beat.

Nuala inclines her head slightly, her cheeks flushing.

Shirana wanders through the doors into the great hall from the outside.

Shirana has arrived.

"Pleased to meet you, Journeyman," replies Jehran politely, "I'm Jehran, Steward for Igen Weyr."

The formerly jittery apprentices swift beats quickly with the harpers, changing their dance into a loose circle and picking up a fast paced jovial dance around the dance floor. They circle together, laughing and drawing in several others in the process.

Shirana stands by the entrance for a long moment surveying the Hall before entering.

Nuala hears several weavers greet the MasterHarper. She glances over her shoulder and gives the woman a wave in greeting and invitation to join her, Selchin, and Qulan.

Radar finally runs out of breath, and has to leave the dancing. His partner soon finds another man while Radar drifts over to the quietly conversing people. Along the way, he calls out, "Weaver's duties to the Harper Hall!" to the MasterHarper.

A baker apprentice in black and white with a lively crimson vest circles around, stopping in front of Shirana. "Greetings, and welcome to the Weavercraft Dinner!" he croons to her, offering his tray of cheese cubes.

Qulansips from her refilled glass, watching the comings and goings as Nuala and Selchin chat. She smiles, waving to the Masterharper once her attention is drawn in that direction.

Shirana waves, nods, greets, cadges a small handful of cheese cubes and weaves her way through the crowd towards Master Nu

Selchin smiles with pleasure as she spies the Masterharper and ads her wave to those of the women with whom she stands.

Katlynn ambles in through the archway from the teaching wing.

Katlynn has arrived.

Selchin murmurs,"Tillek's Duties to the Harperhall, Master Shirana."

Dela shakes her head again at Jehran, "Aye, sorry, I'm afraid I don't remember you." she offers a smile anyway and then it widens "But I'd be happy to get to know you better, sir."

Qulan gestures to one of the Benden-dressed lads behind her who steps around and pulls out a chair for the Masterharper.

Shirana makes it, finally, to the vicinity of Tillek and Weaver (no mean feat) and acknowledges Selchin's honors with her own, "And Harper's to Tillek! And to Weaver's of course, Nuala! So this is Qulan!" The question is no question, but rather greeting, which she accompanies by a quick assessment of the young woman.

Jehran follows Shirana's lead, at least as far as cadging some food goes. As Katlynn comes through the entrance not too far from him, he gives her a polite smile. Then he says to Dela, "I'm delighted to make your acquaintance also. Come and visit us at Igen Weyr again sometime?"

The Harpers end their duet perfectly together, and beam at each other as the others clap. Elya hands her gitar to another waiting apprentice and goes in search of a drink.

"Please, have a seat," the young Holder smiles, under Harper scrutiny, "I'd heard you might make it. We're glad to see you."

Nuala says in soft tones, "So glad you could make it!" She nods in response to Shirana's comment. "That she is."

Dela nods happily to Jehran and makes a promise to do so. "I'll be around, eventually." she grins and then "Excuse me, I need to tend to a few things. Please pardon my absense." and she whisks away to greet someone and see to a baker lad who's tipped his tray and spilt cheeses across the table.

Katlynn slips into the hall, head bobbing towards anyone who looks her way, but otherwise trying to go relatively unnoticed. After gathering a drink for herself and one other, she takes her place in the kissing booth.

Katlynn has left.

Shirana smiles warmly to Qulan, and sits (almost without grace). After the aftershock of her landing, she asks, generally, "So how is the Gather going? I apologize for being late, but Eclipse was bent on proving to me that I don't ride him often enough."

Selchin chuckles at Shirana's remark and sips her wine.

Dela waltzes over to the kissing booth and leans on one of the posts. "Heya Katlynn!" she chirrups. "Ready to make the guys swoon?"

Nuala laughs. "It's going rather well. I'm surprised that you didn't bring down your boat - though I'm sure that would have been a much further trip."

Shirana says "The Dream? She's still berthed off Ista's beaches."

Qulan chuckles at that, her nose a bit pink from wine and laughter, "Oh runners do have such minds of their own. The gather is lovely here. They've really outdone themselves."

From the Kissing Booth, Katlynn looks up almost disdainfully at Dela, then breaks into a wide grin. "Oh defintely, I even got some of that glossy stuff for my lips." she makes a show of running the pink gloss over her lips, then puts the jar down with a grin.

Nuala pages to Dela, Elya, Jehran, Katlynn, Mirielle, Qulan, Radar, Selchin, and Shirana: I have some RL things to take care of...if you'll excuse me :) I'll pop back on soon.

Selchin murmurs fondly,"The captain and I were just at Ista to purchase a boat."

Shirana warms to the subject, "Oh really? What kind?

Dela laughs sweetly and turns to the room, clapping her hands together sharply twice. The harpers pause between songs long enough for Dela to call out "For your enjoyment, but not too much so we do need her for other things, Katlynn has opened the kissing booth." she grins back at Katlynn and then continues "I'll be starting sketches of those who wish them, soon. If you'd like to be caught by suprise, leave your name in the tin on the booth." she then turns and the harpers pick their music back up.

Elya thanks the Juice Girl for her drink and wanders over towards the kissing booth, peering around people to see what's going onl

Jehran makes his way slowly through the crowd, all the while snacking on any bits of food that are proffered to him. Eventually, he pauses near where Selchin, Nuala, Qulan and Shirana are having their conversation, though it doesn't seem to have been his specific intention to seek them out. "Good evening," he says to them, "Enjoying the party?"

Nuala has disconnected.

Selchin grins at the masterharper with a wink,"A *bigger* one. Our family apears to be outgrowning the Rose quickly and we needed something with a bit more room. One cabin isn't enough for all, anymore."

Selchin glances up at Jehran, nodding with a smile. "Tillek's duties to Igen Weyr."

Qulan looks up at Jehran's comment, recognizing the face but somewhat set askew by the knot, "Yes, it's quiet lovely. Igen, are you? I thought I saw you at Telgar a time or two."

The music shifts again to a slightly slower dance song, but one that is popular.

Jehran replies to Selchin with, "And Igen Weyr's to Tillek." He pauses, then explains, "I used to be at Telgar, actually, and Benden before that. But I've been at Igen Weyr for a couple of Turns now."

Dela grins to Elya as she approaches and looks apologetically to Katlynn. "Sorr if that was embarrassing.. Had to let them know somehow.." she grins and looks around the hall. "Any sign of your partner? I've not seen him all afternoon, heard something about him being in a late class."

From the Kissing Booth, Katlynn rolls her eyes dramatically and shrugs. "He's probably hiding out in his room too scared to come down here and help me." as she speaks, a young man approaches the booth and flings a mark into the tin with a *clang*. "Oh great.." she mutters softly, then gives the young man a nice kiss.

Elya smiles back at Dela, then turns as one of the younger apprentice Harpers tugs on her sleeve. The two murmur for a moment, and then the younger Harper scurries back over to the others.

Qulan ahs as if that might explain it, "I know I've never been to Igen so it was a moment of quandry as to whether I'd actually seen you at Telgar or not. You look familiar." She smiles warmly and raises her glass anwyay, "Benden's duties to Igen Weyr then."

Dela grins widely at the young man who stumbles of happily. "Well, you've the right idea there...." she smirks.

Jehran raises his glass in reply to Qulan, and says, "And Igen's to Benden."

Jehran goes home.

Jehran has left.

Qulan smiles, a bit rosy around the edges, her attention returning to Selchin, "Wasn't Lady Keroon supposed to make it as well? I haven't seen her yet."

Shirana grins. "And surely Lady Diane will be here?

Radar has disconnected.

Selchin nods at Qulan,"I'd heard that Lady Keroon and her new Heir were to put in an apearance this evening, yes." She glances at Shirana with a smile,"I was hoping to see Lady Boll, as well, so I hope you're right."

The bakers begin neatening up the tables in preparation for the meal coming up soon.

The Juice Girl smiles, pours a glass of Melon Juice for Dela and hands it over with a wide smile.

Qulan sets down her glass and nods with some finality, "We ought to have a small gather at Benden...invite all the Ladies." She adds, present company filtering through, "And you as well," she smiles to the Masters. "It would be a lot of fun."

Shirana hoists an eyebrow. "That's quite alright, Qulan. We Masters quite understand that the Holder ladies like to get away to discuss...holder things.

As the dance piece draws to a close an older apprentice picks up a set of pipes. Several of the younger apprentices grab their instruments and sit in the half-circle. The senior apprentice raises the pipes to his lips and begins a lively reel.

A tall lanky winecrafter apprentice trips over his own feet in his rush to take the young rider on his arm out to the dance floor. He spills onto the floor in front of the harpers, and his accompanying lady helps him rise again, blushing and hiding a giggle.

Qulan casts a smile toward the Masterharper, "Yes but I'm sure you have some of the same..things..going on as a Craftmaster that Holders do."

A baker lad swoops down onto the masters and holder gathering, offering a tray of cheese and crackers and little pieces of meat rolled together with spices and stuck on the ends of toothpicks.

Shirana tilts her head slightly, and grins ruefully. "I'm sure we've some commonality, yes. But I wouldn't want to intrude..."

One of the fellow weaver apprentices sidles up to Katlyn's kissing booth and tosses a mark into her tin. *Clang!* "Hiya pretty Kat. Can I have a kiss?" he asks, hopeful.

Qulan waves a hand though, dismissing "things", "We rarely get to just chat though. I haven't seen Selchin in far too long, for instance. It would be good just to fetch up with a glass of wine around a big hearth and plenty of sweetbreads and talk." Speaking of wine, she takes up her glass again which has been refilled by a surreptitiously attentive apprentice. One wonders how much her small frame can possibly tolerate.

From the Kissing Booth, Katlynn pushes her lips into the tiniest of pouts, scanning the room desperately for Gem. Where -is- that boy when she needs him. "Oh yeah.. here you go.." she sweeps some more gloss onto her pout, then gives the other apprentice his kiss, making it a nice long one at that. He bounds off with a laugh, then proceeds to tell his friends all about it.

A journeyman winecrafter motions toward Qulan and murmers something to his tray weidling assistants. Each nods, murmers something in return and sweep the room's outer edges.

Elya finishes off her juice and returns to her fellow harpers. She picks up her gitar and turns away from the crowd to tune it.

Shirana's grin becomes a full smile now. "I'd offer the hearth at my Hall's kitchen...but you can probably imagine the stories that would fly about Pern on firelizard wings, if suddenly the Ladies and female CraftMasters of Pern descended on Harper Hall in a flutter of Gold Dragons!

Qulan giggles girlishly at that, "And you can be sure the Weyrwomen wouldn't be left out of that gathering."

The bakers begin setting out plates of fine porcelin, well polished silver, napkins, bowls, and water glasses to accompany dinner. Finger bowls are brought in, carefully filled from a large jug, and spaced evenly with each dining setup. Apprentices from several crafts work together to gather the chairs together and place them in their proper places.

Shirana says "Aye. Now _there_'s something to fear!"

Mirielle has disconnected.

Qulan laughs gaily, setting her glass down again to pat Shirana's arm in mirth, "And the Weyrleaders would fear most of all!" She notices not a thing when her glass is replaced by one cut half with juice, the winecrafters at least looking out for the lightweight Lady.

Mirielle has connected.

Noticing that the first course of the meal is coming up, the Harpers switch from lively dancing music to calmer dinner-time music.

Gemiron wanders in through the archway from the teaching wing.

Gemiron has arrived.

Gemiron gives everyone a small smile and scurries on, must be late.

Gemiron has left.

Dela spies Gemiron heading into the kissing booth and whistles. "Hey look ladies, one of our male apprentices just headed into the kissing booth." she grins as she comes upon the Lady and Masters gathered together.

From the Kissing Booth, Gemiron blushes and ducks down into the seat next to Katly and warily eyes the hall for any takers.

Mirielle has left.

A stream of boys, encouraged by Gemiron's appearance and the tales of one young weaver apprentice line up at the kissing booth with their marks in hand. A steady stream of *Clang!* *Clang!* can be heard as they toss their marks in.

From the Kissing Booth, Katlynn sneaks a glare over at Gem, then puckers up her lips to kiss yet another apprentice. What is it with these people? The tin is slowly filling up, and she sends the next apprentice off with a silly grin.

From the Kissing Booth, Mirielle walks in, amused and curious as to what's going on.

Following the boys, several girls blush furiously and scurry over to line up for Gemiron's kisses as the boys line up for Katlynn's.

Qulan grins, sitting up straight to peer toward the kissing booth, "Faranth, what are they doing over there?"

One boy who's not very well known yet glances over at Gemiron and scoots over to ask his friend "Do you think he'd kiss me?"

From the Kissing Booth, Gemiron blinks at the glare, giving an innocent smile and starts doing the smooches for the females, clinks in his tin, and then stops to blink at the boy, blushing profusely. "No," he grumbles before the next girl hauls him up to remind him of his job tonight.

Dela grins to Qulan from her position nearby and answers "It's the kissing booth. Gemiron is the attending male, if you're interested in getting a kiss." she smiles, then gets drawn off to the dance floor by a friendly rider who's taken her up on a previous offer of a dance.

One of the apprentice Harpers sneaks over to the line at the Kissing Booth and waits his turn.

The boy interested in Gemiron pouts, but seems to be reassured slightly by Katlynn's willingness and soon the smile returns to his face. His eyes do fall onto Gemiron again a few times, however.

From the Kissing Booth, Katlynn sends another glare Gem-wards, then slicks on a bit more gloss before sweeping her arms around one particularily cute looking male rider, giving him a nice long smooch before moving on to the next in line.

From the Kissing Booth, Mirielle grins at all of the people lining up, and giggles at the smooching. "this looks interesting" she murmurs to herself.

Dela kicks off her shoes, since it's hard to dance in them, and swivels her hips to a slow song with the rider who's draped his arm around her shoulders. They converse slightly in low tones not heard over the music, him being rewarded with a sweet smile.

Elya spots the deliquent apprentice and moves as if to put down her gitar and fetch him back when the Journeywoman Harper smiles and shakes her head. "Let....fun....for now." she murmurs and Elya nods, still strumming.

The boy interested in Gemiron finally gets his kiss from Katlynn and wanders off to get a drink now. He returns, politely offering cups of redfruit juice to the two kissers.

From the Kissing Booth, Gemiron ignores the next Gem-glare, and keeps the revolving door kissing, so to speak, and then timidly takes the cup of redfruit juice and taking a nice sip before the tapping of an impatient foot gets him kissing another apprentice.

Shirana has disconnected.

Qulan sips at her glass and chuckles, "That might be fun." Not having a jealous Lord over one's shoulder does have its advantages to making merry at a gather after all.

The bakers finally get the tables prepared for dinner and announce in loud tones "DINNER! At your leisure, dinner will be served. Activities will continue afterward."

Mirielle has arrived.

The Journeywoman Harper dismissed several of the apprentices to go and eat, while the few seniors among them continue performing music.

Qulan puts aside thoughts of a lark to the kissing booth as servers move among the tables with the first remove.

All the tray toting people dissappear into the kitchens on que, getting out of the way of the converging diners and preparing to bring out the courses of the dinner.

From the Kissing Booth, Katlynn wraps her arms around one of the younger harper apprentices, dipping him over and giving him a smooch. That done, she waves off the rest of the line, murmuring something about kissing on an empty stomach. She checks that the tin is full, then departs in search of some dinner.

Katlynn has arrived.

Qulan swirls the "wine" in her glass, not really noting the additional sweetness after two glasses of it undiluted.

The newly-kissed Harper Apprentice wanders back over to the still-performing Harpers, looking dazed but satisfied. The Journeywoman waves him over to the tables.

The tray toting people from before reemerge from the kitchens and line up by the wall waiting for the diners to take their seats. Their trays now hold bowls filled with chilled cucumber soup and topped with sour cream crowned with fresh herbs. Soft hot rolls, just from the ovens, are served along with them. The servers move to serve those seated while carefully staying out of the way of those still moving toward their seats.

Dela allows herself to be escorted over to her usual seat by her rider friend and sits beside him, still chattering away. She nods her thanks to the server, and dips her spoon daintily into the soup, tasting it with a slightly doubtiful expression, which soon clears away and she sips more of the liquid from her spoon.

From the Kissing Booth, Gemiron clears his throat and does one more kiss, eyes popping open as the girl grabs around his neck to hold him an extra second, then mumbles a 'meal break' and covers the tin, walking around to take a seat near Katly.

Gemiron has arrived.

Elya is dismissed by the Journeywoman Harper and joins the group of young apprentices at their table.

Qulan spreads a cloth napkin across her lap to cover her gather dress as servers place soup and rolls before the diners at her table. Sampling the soup, she tears open a steaming roll and commences to enjoying the opening strains of dinner, "This is really good," she comments to Selchin. "About as good as anything Ofira makes."

Katlynn shuffles further up the bench at the apprentice table until she's snug up against one of the boys from earlier. "Nice technique.." she murmurs sweetly into his ear, then reaches for a bowl of the soup.

Servers sweep around the hall carefully dropping bowls of soup in front of people and clearing away empty glasses to be replaced by ones filled with different drink, and refilling other glasses. A few slide into the harper gathering distributing glasses of juice, water, wine, and other requested drinks, along with bits of chicken wrapped in basil leaves.

Selchin nods in agreement as she bites into the delicate buttery roll. "Every bit as good, Qulan."

Dela guestures toward the kissing booth and she and her rider friend giggle at some joke as the server appears again to clear away bowls.

The next course slowly begins to circulate for the guests. Platters of meat double thick with apple stuffed procine chops, racks of lamb roasted with rosemary and garlic, and Bollians duck slices topped with sherry-like wine sauce. Serving bowls of sides circulate as well, filled with wedgenut stuffing with apples and sage, roasted tubers with rosemary and garlic, and rivergrains with nuts and currants. Sauteed mushrooms are spread evenly around the perimeter of each plate, mixed with garlic and parsley.

Gemiron sniffs and goes back to his food, ignoring that girl that takes Katly's place on his side, focusing on the meal, at least until the girl snaps her fingers to get his attetenion, then storms as he doesn't kiss her again. Whoops.

Qulan wipes her fingertips delicately on her napkin as a server clears her bowl away and the aroma of the next course passes under her nose with the arrival of new dishes, "Oh this smells lovely."

As some of the younger Harpers finish eating, they head back and take the places of the ones who haven't eaten yet.

Selchin can't help an mmmmmmmmm escaping, as her plate is filled with lamb and tubers and, her favorite, mushrooms.

Mirielle goes home.

Mirielle has left.

Dela checks to make sure no one is watching, and rakes the mushrooms from a few dishes off onto her plate, in place of most of the other side dishes. Her mouth waters and she smiles happily at the flavours that fill her mouth.

Qulan has a bit of most of the dishes on her plate by now, wielding her utensils over them with delight. The girl's appetite is legendary at Telgar with much speculation as to where all that food could possibly fit.

Selchin catches Dela's actions and lifts her napkin to her mouth to cover a smile.

Dela sends a wink Selchin's way and digs in, doing her best to hide the mannerisms she's picked up after her time with the Sebrings. She even manages to keep the fur cuffs lining her sleeves out of her food.

Daegin moves through the doors into the great hall from the outside.

Daegin has arrived.

Katlynn forks some greens into her mouth, careful to catch any spills on the plate in front of her. As she turns to speak to Gem, one of the prettier looking weaver apprentices approaches, and she holds out her palm, a mark resting there. "Can I have a kiss?" she murmurs, "I know it's late..."

Elya hastily finishes her food and relieves the Journeywoman, who gratefully heads for the tables and dinner. Elya slips into a seat and picks up her pipes just in time for a slow, haunting tune.

Qulan forks another tuber and chats pleasantly with a girl near her own age, one of the Bitra family.

Daegin ambles through the great double doors to the outside.

Daegin has left.

Selchin sips her wine and smiles sentimentally at the piping melody the harpers play.

Gemiron ummms, looking from Katly up to the girl, then takes the mark in one hand and pulls her down for a quick kiss, then tucking the mark away, and blushing when he turns back towards Katlynn again.

The final course consists of desserts. The centerpiece of the desserts is a three-tiered cake make of light yet rich and fluffy dough. The uppermost tier is decorated with real wildflowers which seem to cascade down to the base. Additional desserts include: klah and brandy parfaits

Katlynn gives all her attention to the plate in front of her, spearing her fork through a slice of herbed meat, then watching as the pretty apprentice makes her way towards the junior table, chittering excitedly.

Gemiron sniffs again, turning to his own food in kind and gobbling it up in time for the dessert to come, the cake almost enough to make him drool as he stares at it.

Dela's eyes widen at the food being brought out of the kitchens now. "Goodness" she murmers to those nearby "If I eat any more, I won't be able to dance!" as if that's the most important thing she could be doing all night. But still she takes a sweetened mug of klah and a small slice of cake with a few flowers on it and devours it along with the rest of her dinner.

Qulan oohs and points to the parfaits, nudging Selchin with a smile and a soft comment.

As the dessert course winds down the Harpers pick up the pace of their music again as an invitation for folks to dance.

Qulan has disconnected.

Selchin chuckles at the young woman and nods,"Yes, they are. BUt I think it's cake fro me, this evening. Only one dessert or I'll not be able to get into this gown again."

Katlynn helps herself to a thick slice of cake, picking at it then devouring the rest of her meal, cake following soon after. "Excuse me.. I have a kissing booth to attend to." she mutters, then heads over in that direction.

Katlynn has left.

Several apprentices clustered with a group of journeymen move back out onto the dance floor.

Dela finishes off her cake and dabs her lips daintly with her napkin and allows her rider friend to tote her back onto the dance floor.

The Harpers have all returned from their meals and are taking turns playing lively dance tunes, slower songs, and any requests given to them.

The bakers clear away the dinner dishes and a few people drift away into the other parts of the hall for dancing, chatting and so forth.

You move through the great double doors to the outside.

Fields Around the WeaverCraft Hall(#11968RJa)

A white stone path leads up to the impressive double doors of the Hall made of heavy skybroom with solid metal hinges in the form of shuttles. Meadering through the field around the hall, gravel paths lead to various areas of planted beds. Flowers and herbs fill the area with fragrant scents. Trees provide welcome shade from Boll's hot sun around a large area has been cleared for dragon landings to one side. Y'tell and Phelth (+view), the craft's watchrider and his dragon, can usually be found at the landing, ready to exchange gossip with visiting riders. Weavers can be seen harvesting plants for the dye room or just for adding to the beauty of the hall. In the distance are flax and cotton fields and a large storage building. A paddock fenced in by stone is adjacent to a stable.

Women's Dorm(#2224RA)

This room is ample in size for the large number of apprentices it houses. In an effort to make it cheery and inviting, the walls have been whitewashed to a soft, matte finish. Glow baskets are suspended in holders of blue and white enamelled metal and are constantly replenished as needed. The rows of neat cots have bright spreads covering them, and sturdy, simple trunks hunch at their feet patiently, hold the cot owners' personal belongings. Simple cloth paintings add a dash of brightness as well. A modest runner of harper blue arrows down the middle of the room. Against one wall is a small lounge area where several comfortable, worn chairs and couches huddle like gossiping old aunties.

The door to the southwest leads back out to the Masters' Hall, while a flight of stairs partitioned off from the main room leads downwards to the male dorms and from there out to the courtyard.
